Yes. The Basic tier is free, with no credit card and no time limit, and includes every core study tool plus a private, on-device AI chat. Gold is an optional add-on for cloud AI.

Both tiers get the same study tools — Live Listen, Flashcards, Quizzes, Sample Questions, Study Groups, Notebook, Audio Marker and material uploads. The difference is the AI model behind chat: Basic uses an on-device model (Gemma on mobile, Ollama on desktop); Gold adds cloud AI chat via Google Gemini with a 250,000-token monthly allowance.

Request it from inside the app (Settings → Request Gold upgrade). Today that request is reviewed and approved manually rather than through an automated checkout, so there's a short wait instead of an instant unlock — we're rolling out self-serve billing next.

Yes — that's the point of it. The on-device model runs locally, so chatting with it (and reading your uploaded material) works fully offline. Cloud AI, by contrast, needs a connection.

Your material stays on-device unless you explicitly choose cloud AI chat for a conversation. In Study Groups, you're identified to other members by a group alias rather than your real name.

The interface currently supports English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic and Russian, with text-to-speech voices available per language depending on your device.
