Last updated: — fill in on publish

Template notice: this draft is based on the data The Study Aid actually collects (Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, and the Gemini API for Gold cloud-AI chats). It is a starting point only — have a lawyer review and finalize it before publishing or linking it from the live app.

1. Information we collect

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we store your account email, display name, a unique user ID, your subscription tier (Basic or Gold), and an optional group alias you choose for Study Groups. We also store the study content you choose to save — Live Listen sessions, flashcards, quizzes, notebook entries and uploaded material — so it can sync across your devices.

2. How AI chat handles your data

On the Basic tier, AI chat runs on an on-device model (Gemma on mobile, Ollama on desktop) — your messages and material are processed locally and are not sent to our servers for this purpose. On the Gold tier, if you choose the cloud AI option, your message and any material you've added to that conversation are sent to our backend and forwarded to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. We track token usage against your monthly quota but do not use your content to train models.

3. Study Groups

Other members of a group you join can see your chosen group alias and the decks/quizzes shared within that group — not your real name or email.

4. Data retention & deletion

Your content is retained while your account is active so it can sync across devices. Contact us to request deletion of your account and associated data.

5. Third parties

We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions) to run the service, and Google's Gemini API to power Gold cloud AI chat. These providers process data on our behalf under their own enterprise agreements and privacy terms.
